Re-Storying Wastelands is a research project that intends to understand the dichotomies and commonalities of wasteland as a concept by studying linguistic peculiarities, reflecting its perception on a global scale and narrows it down to a micro scale to draw a direct comparison. By doing so the project tries to understand how the term “wasteland” has been valued and engenders variety of meanings in different settings.

Urban Wastelands is a project that analyzes the relationship between buildings and nature and how it is possible to value them, without necessarily having to decide which is more important. Through the idea of palimpsest has been developed an idea of the future in the case study of an abandoned area in a little town in the northeast of Italy, Rovereto.

This project focuses on evaluating the role of technology in environmental reconstruction by examining the process of reconstructing wetlands based on three case studies. The project outcome is to make the role of technology visible through using technical and collage representation techniques and to develop constructed wetland proposals for the three cases examined.

LIFE Mires of Estonia: An Unpoetical Two-For-One is an essay and video project that opens up the complexities in an EU-funded wetland restoration project in Estonia. In his project, Egemen highlights the ways that restoration of peatlands has been lauded as a provider of ecosystem services while remaining entangled in the nexus between regional and national energy politics and environmental markets.

The Many Natures of a Spoil Bank is a comic illustrating diverse perceptions of postmining landscape depending on its revaluing through history. The project concentrates on a case of Kopistská výsypka which was proclaimed as a Special Area of Conservation in 2005.

Lisa Rohrer

Framing Wetlands is a series of collages that explore the multiple narratives of wetlands in the historic and popular tourist city of Charleston, South Carolina (USA). The site was selected based on Lisa's personal experience living on the Charleston peninsula for two years during hurricanes Matthew and Irma and also vacationing in the area prior to and after living there.

Vanishing Picturesque of the Urban Commons is a case study of the Insects Highway urban regeneration project in Northern Tallinn through close reading of the project documentation and peculiarities of human traces of life on the physical site.

Restoration Priorities is a research project exploring various factors and agencies involved in restoration of wastelands of different scales across the globe. Through an interactive world map this project explores the similarities and differences in these case studies to understand different priorities associated with them.
